Louis Fernelius Hunt, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Monday May 28, 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born May 15, 1929 in Evanston, Wyoming, the son of Charles Thomas and Lillie Irene Fernelius Hunt. He was the youngest of six children (Charles Hunt, Bernice McKinnon, Afton Rex, Delma Howe and Helen Marie Champlain).
When he was 19, Louis joined the United States Navy where he served for four years as an Electronic Technician during the Korean War. After he returned from the Navy, Louis met Sally Ruth Sims of Almy, Wyoming at the University of Wyoming LDS Institute and they were married on August 17, 1953. After his graduation with a BS in Electrical Engineering, they made their home in Blackfoot, Idaho where they resided for 48 years. Louis worked at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Idaho Falls where he was an Electrical Engineer. He was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of different callings throughout his life, including scoutmaster, YM president, state and ward clerk, and a temple worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. Louis and his wife served a full-time mission in Salt Lake City where they were both specialists in the Family History Library. During the past five years, Louis lived in Lehi, Utah where he enjoyed spending time with his family and working on art projects. He was a talented sculptor, potter and painter. In addition, Louis enjoyed reading, doing family genealogy and visiting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved hunting and fishing and was an avid outdoorsman.
Louis is survived by his children: Kenneth L. Hunt (Cynthia) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Russell S. Hunt (Pat) of Chicago, Illinois, Susan Spilsbury of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jolene Elison of Lehi, Utah. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and all of his siblings.
Family and friends are invited to a viewing at the Wing Mortuary in Lehi, Utah on Sunday, June 10, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 11, 2012 in the Lehi East Stake Center, 1200 East 900 North. An additional viewing will be held one hour before the funeral services in the Lehi East Stake Center on Monday morning.
